Ninemonth, fourteenth day, year 1173

Could I have stopped this? Was there any point in this madness that I could have stepped in and done something to change the course, or was this meant to be?

Could I have intervened, when my father was holing himself up in his study for days - weeks - at a time? Could I have changed things then? When I saw he and Danni were getting too close, would he have listened to me? Would it have changed things even then?

Should I have stepped in when I saw what Danni was after, and when I saw where my father's madness was leading him? When the mages began to disappear? When would have been a good time for me to do more than pray to the Elder gods?

I don't know that I could have done anything, but at least I could have tried.

My father is gone. He's been gone for nearly two years. I have read his notes, deciphering what I could, but it is enough. There are nine stones that can rift holes in the world. I suppose when you've gone insane it doesn't do to think small. Nine stones. Nine stones that could be anywhere, be in anyone's hands. I do not think Danni has any of them (or if he has them, he cannot use them).

So why do I start this journal now? Why not two years ago, when he first vanished, or two years before that when I realized he was working with magic more powerful than he had any right to be holding?

Because yesterday I was approached by a horse who could speak to me. I don't mean he flapped his lips and snorted ... I mean I heard him inside my head. His name is Carion, and he has a quest.

I suppose this is the way the Elder gods answer the prayers of the devout - or choose to rectify the mistakes of the mad. I won't pretend to understand, and a great deal of this baffles me, but Carion is to find the stones. He believes he has at least one human companion, and tomorrow we'll set out to find him. Or her, I suppose.

From what Carion has told me so far, the stones have been scattered. He can feel them pulling him in several different directions, some closer than others, some stronger than others. He believes they must be destroyed, and I am inclined to agree with that sentiment. However, until we find his human companion - he calls him the Chosen - then he will be unable to proceed.

After all, how many jewelers will sell to a horse? And how many horses can mine or reserve themselves a stall at an inn?

I do not know precisely what part I play in this. Carion seems to think that I shall be the brains of the operation as it were, the organizer. The one to utilize the connections we've built since the decree against Magic thrust us all underground. Oh, how do I get trapped into these things?

This has become my Thanksgiving tradition in recent years. If you want to end war and stuff, you've got to learn to sing loud all the time. So people can hear you!

Happy Turkey Day, flist. I am thankful for great e-pals. :]

So I caught wind of this post/essay/meta on Lily tonight.

What struck me most was not the content itself (though it makes me happy, because I love Lily and it's annoying to see people tear her apart rather than embrace both her humanity and flaws alongside her strengths), but that fact that 1) it's necessary for fans to defend against such a wide range of misogynistic bashing of female characters (I can remember Anti-Narcissa essays back in the day that made me SEETHE) and 2) I can only recall a handful of essays that cover a somewhat sane positions on canon/interpretation, but I can think of comms full of the Lily-bashing/female-character/any-character bashing. I'm sure the reality is not so uneven, but in my mind it very much is.

Ultimately, it always comes back to this - why do some fans, fanfic writers, roleplayers, etc feel the need to tear down everyone around a character just to make their own more sympathetic? We may not always agree with the creator, but we were still provided with toys to play with that have depths we can explore simply by logically assessing the canon. Is is that people are insecure about their ability to rewrite characters as they are in canon, is it just laziness, or is it speaking to a need to make their character one hundred percent right?

For me, something that has always put me off a fic or a character bio is the moment they make someone the convenient villain to get what they want, without any thought for how it demeans their own character to do so. Be it tortured!Sirius or ignored!Andromeda or beaten-by-Ron!Hermione or delicate-flower!Draco or whatever, in the end it always feels like it's taken away from or trivialized that character (Sirius escaped to save his life, rather than it be because he was not being treated as a person with opinions and feelings of his own, Andromeda ran away because her family didn't love her and Ted was the only one who did, instead of it being she changed her purist mind for one man and retained other prejudices, etc) rather than make them sympathetic and layered.

Ugh, and I should so be sleeping, family things to do in a few hours!

"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches...born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies...and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not...and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survive..."-The Prophecy

Our story begins as 1980 dies, as the final year of the first war against Voldemort is underway. Lord Voldemort and his followers strike fear into the hearts of all. Giants and werewolves serve the Dark Lord, doing his bidding. The Death Eaters roam free, killing Mudbloods, Muggles, and Blood Traitors as they please. Hundreds have died and disappeared. As each day passes, the resistance grows weaker. Voldemort seems to be invincible and all hope is lost.

That is until a Prophecy was made; a child with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies to those who have thrice defied him and with a power that the Dark Lord will not understand. This child would bring an end to Voldemort’s reign. And so the Dark Lord set out to kill this child before he can grow into a threat.

The problem lay in discovering the child, for two couples who had twice defied the Dark Lord were expecting children, both due in July. In order to seek the answer, Lord Voldemort kidnapped the Unspeakable assigned to the Prophecy, assuming that there he would find the truth, but the Dark Lord did not expect Marlene McKinnon to be brave enough to deceive him.

How could a child born to either the Potters or the Longbottoms be the supposed Prophecy child when their parents had only defied him twice? And the probability of them doing it a third time was inconceivable, who would be foolish enough to defy the Dark Lord that many times? She insisted that a wizard as great as he was, was foolish to waste his time on the silly words of a false seer; she believed the prophecy was false.

With that lie, the children remained momentarily safe with their parents none the wiser to the fate that potentially awaited their children. Until the night of the Autumn Equinox; Halloween, 1980, when Lily and James Potter will once again defy the Dark Lord Voldemort and make the Prophecy a reality.

Now the Dark Lord hunts for the couple and their son, his focus distracted from his original goal of ridding the world of those whom he found to be unworthy; all that matters now was his immortality. This leaves room for the resistance to grow stronger. And just as it seems that there is no hope for the Potters to come out of this alive, Alice and Frank Longbottom thrice defy Voldemort, sending them into hiding as well.

The fate of the Wizarding World lies in the hands of two small infants and a group of vigilantes working for Dumbledore. How can they stand a chance against Voldemort and all of his forces?
It’s time to find out.

Exodus is a canon compliant RPG set in the Era of the Marauders, which follows the lives of James and Lily Potter, Frank and Alice Longbottom, the Order of the Phoenix, the Dark Lord Voldemort, and his Death Eaters during the final year of the war. The end of this story is well known, but how they get there is all up to you.

Game play begins Halloween, 2009 and ends November 01, 2010.

Do you have what it takes to fight this war and survive? If you’re brave enough to find out, then apply and we’ll see you on the battlefield.

Most Wanted: Bones Family, Alecto & Amycus Carrow, Barty Crouch Jr., Fenrir Greyback, Rabastan & Rodolphus Lestrange, Frank Longbottom, Xenophilius Lovegood, Prewett twins, Peter Pettigrew, Arthur & Molly Weasley, Order Members, Death Eaters, and many others!

So this narrative of sorts (the first part, rest assured I WILL BE CONTINUING THIS) is introducing you to a character that all of the played characters will know and interact with: Lucy Michaelson, Librarian of San Francisco. It is largely introduction, so I apologize if this isn't thrilling.

Meet Lucy: nursing graduate student and, unknown to her, the next Librarian. )

The Kingdom of Frell is at peace.

Though the so-called Golden Age of King Char and Queen Ella is long over- so long ago now that few are still alive who can remember it- life continues on much as it ever did. Merchants travel the lands far and wide, finding new and exotic goods to bring back to Greenville, the town just outside the royal palace. Greenville's markets are thriving, and most of the town's inhabitants pay little mind to the castle looming in the distance.

That is, of course, until The Gray Death appears. There is no known cure. Sufferers initially feel very weak, and are soon not even able to get out of bed. Overcome by fever, their complexions turn gray and they die. Still, Greenville believes it is safe- there are just rumors of the illness, and being so close to the castle, they're safe, right?

Wrong.

The illness knows no boundaries, a fact that is brought starkly to light when the King of Frell contracts the disease and dies a short time later. The King leaves behind a land in limbo- his wife, the Queen, is trying her level best to keep power from the hands of their immature son. Heroes search for a cure, trying to avenge their fallen King. Life in Greenville continues on, if a bit more cautiously. Life in the court, however, is marked by ambition and intrigue. Courtiers' motives are far from pure, and ambitions are on the rise. No one is sure who will emerge victorious.

Happily ever after was never a guarantee.

Fair is an original character role playing game inspired by Ella Enchanted, Fairest, and The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine. The game takes place in the world created by those books, but no canon knowledge is required or expected. All fantasy characters welcomed!

Bad News: I woke up in a pool of blood.
Good News: Despite waking up on my back, I didn't drown in said blood.
